This is a wonderful antique pressed glass serving plate or platter made at the Trenton Glass Works by the Nova Scotia Glass Co. as a commemorative piece to celebrate the 50th year of Queen Victorias reign in 1887. The piece has an image of a young Queen Victoria in profile vertically oriented on the platter. The image of the Queen is surrounded by rays and with flowers and has the Royal coat-of-arms at either side, extending into the handles. There is a bit of utensil surface scratching over the image of the Queen, but this is quite minor - I believe that this could be buffed out by a glass professional if deemed necessary, but I wouldnt bother. There is a large air bubble in the top handle as well as a tiny air bubble in the Queens cheek, original to the making of the piece. Otherwise, the piece is in very good condition with no chips or cracks. The glass fluoresces green under an ultraviolet light (see photo), a sign of old glass. It measures 11 3/4 across its handles by 10 and weighs 732 grams (1.6 lbs). This is a very nice addition to a Canadian pressed glass collection or to a British royalty collection!
