This is a wonderful antique majolica pottery humidor featuring a Dutch scene on its lid. The humidor was made in Austria, probably during the 1890s and is stamped in typical fashion with the number 3591. The cover is hollow and has an opening - they used to insert a wet sponge in the cavity in order to provide humidity for the tobacco being stored in the humidor. The piece measures 7 1/2 wide by about 4 1/2 deep with a height of 3 3/8 to the top of the cover. Unfortunately, it has a glued repair to one corner of the jar bottom (see 2 last close-up photos). There is also one fleabite to the top edge of the humidor bottom (see 3rd to last photo). It is pretty typical to find chips like this on authentic antique humidors of this type. Otherwise, the piece is free of any other obvious defect and displays very well, This is a very nice addition to a majolica humidor collection.sold AS IS at a reduced price.
