This is a wonderful 1910s or 1920s era mens raccoon fur coat, a must-have fashion popular with Ivy League college students during the 20s and 30s. This one is an early example - you can tell by the covered peg buttons and loops, the satin lining, the leather armpit guards, the fur lining interior pocket, the makers label and the neck chain. This is the type of coat that young men would wear to football games and other activities. It is made with a rounded shawl collar, has eight peg buttons arranged in a double breasted style and has a pocket at either side. The neck can be worn or closed and the collar can be worn up or down (see photos). The coat can be closed either to the right or left.
Label: Difficult to read the name of the maker, but Fourrures (furs) and Montreal are visible
Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a large size, probably a US size 40/42/44, depending on whether youre wearing a sweater or jacket underneath - please rely on the following measurements for fit (compare measurements with a similar coat that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment and thickness of fur into account):
Shoulders: 20 across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam,
Sleeves: 27 from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve inseam: 20
Chest: 48 around, taken under the arms
Waist: 46 around
Overall length: 48, measured flat at the back from the neck seam
Condition: It is in very good condition, especially considering its age, Raccoon tends to be a fairly robust fur - there are no splits or repairs to the fur pelts. There is a very faint odor from being stored for a hundred years.
This is a rather rare coat and a wonderful example, very full - the photos dont actually do it justice. I dont think that too many of these authentic 1910s / 1920s era raccoon coats have survived to today. Great coat to wear to a football game if you want to recreate the good old days!
Sorry, but I cannot ship this overseas due to restrictions on fur importation....
