This is an antique advertisement promoting the Victor Talking Machine gramophone. This was acquired from the estate of a serious ephemera collector, whose specialities, amongst others, were early gramophones and anything relating to Edison. So, Im not sure from where this was extracted, but Ive been able to figure out the following: the ad is two sided, text on one side and a wonderful early chromolitho print of Nipper the Dog on the other, and that the piece most likely dates to between 1904 and 1906. I arrived at the date from the text on the other side that lists some of the popular artists of the day - the common intersection of the artists was between 1904 and 1906. The bottom of text side states Berliner Gramophone Company of Montreal, Canadian Distributors. This Canadian company was established in 1899 and received its charter in 1904 - it was bought out by Victor in 1924 and became RCA Victor in 1929. The piece is printed on a thick paper/thin cardboard coated stock and measures 9 13/16 by 6 9/16. It is in very good condition with the exception of an irregular bottom edge, where the piece was cut and a bit of edge wear. This is a great looking piece - Nipper the Dog first appeared in 1899, but Im unclear as to when Victor first used the image, but, in any case, this is an early image..... wonderful display item for the gramophone collector..
