This is a Nevada State Controllers Warrant check issued as payment for one weeks salary to State Senator Joseph T. Williams. Williams was elected as a member of the State Assembly in 1878 and as State Senator in 1880. He served until 1884 and is known for the 1881 Williams Resolution, which regulated the freights and fares of the railroads in Nevada. Williams served until 1884 and was purported to be a possible candidate for Governor. The check is made out in the amount of $56. It is in very crisp condition, but has a punch hole in the centre and a paid stamp - still, very well preserved. It measures 10 1/2 by 5 3/8.
Interesting check - wonderful for someone interested in Nevada history, in particular the Nye County that Williams represented.
