This is a very nice quality vintage 70s raincoat designed by Marielle Fleury for Rainmaster - Fleury is considered to have been one of the most influential Canadian designers. This 70s raincoat is made of a water resistant black fabric (not rainproof) that is embroidered with decorative black stitching. This 70s raincoat has long pointy collar and an eight button double breasted front - the top button can be left undone in order to form a lapel or done up to close the neck (see photos). The coat is fully lined in black acetate and has a decorative belt at the back.
Label: Rainmaster by Marielle Fleury Made in Canada. Rainmaster was a trademark of Sport Togs, which hired Fleury in 1969 to design a line under her own name. This coat would date prior to 1973 due to the lack of a Canadian textile identification number and the minimal use of French on the tag.
Sizing: Size is indicated on the “repeats” tag on this 70s raincoat, and although it states size 14 and this should fit a large size, please note the following measurements for fit:
Shoulders: 16 1/2” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve: 23” long from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve inseam: 16”
Bust: 39”, around
Waist: 38” around
Hips: 42” around
Length: 39”, measured flat
Condition: This 70s raincoat is in very clean condition with no wear, tear or stains - it is quite crisp and appears to have seen little use and was well cared for and stored over the years.
This is a wonderful 70s raincoat - great acquisition for the Canadian fashion collector or just a simple, well made, piece for Spring or Fall light rain!
