This is a 1970s vintage mens velvet jacket or sport coat that was made by Palm Beach under the John Weitz brand name.  Weitz had an interesting life - please read further below for his bio.  This mens velvet jacket is made in classic style with medium width, long notched lapels and two button closure.  The fabric is made in black.  The jacket has a patch pocket at either side and a pocket at the left chest.  The cuffs each have three buttons - all of the buttons are covered in leather.   This mens velvet jacket is lined in a rayon fabric that is printed with an English fox hunting scene.  The lining of this mens velvet jacket has a pocket built into the interior at one side and two pockets at the other side.

Label: John Weitz by Palm Beach Tailored in U.S.A. for The Coach House Pittsburgh.  A second label on this mens velvet jacket reads simply John Weitz and the neck loop reads “Tailored for John Weitz Professionally Dry Clean And Press Only”.  The original owner’s initials are affixed above the label.

Union label:  ACWA - Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America label that was used between 1962 and 1976, so this mens velvet jacket dates to within that date range.

Sizing: There is no size label on this mens velvet jacket, and although this should fit an extra large (probably size 48), perhaps for someone taller, please rely on the following measurements for fit (compare measurements with a similar jacket that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment into account):

Shoulders: 21” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves: 26 1/2” from the shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeve inseam: 17 1/2”

Chest:  52” around, taken under the arms

Waist:  48” around

Overall length:  32”, measured flat at the back from the neck seam

Condition:  This mens velvet jacket is in very good condition with no stains, odors, wear or tears - it however would benefit from a proper pressing and will look great afterwards as the velvet is of very nice quality

This is a well tailored mens velvet jacket made with a quality fabric - many years of use left in this, great jacket if it fits!

John Weitz was born into a textile manufacturing family in Germany, he was schooled in London, and emigrated to the US during the war where he became an intelligence officer due to his command of German and French.  After the war, he became a fashion designer and was one of the first to use his name and image to promote his designs.  Subsequently, he became a successful author and historian.
