Vintage 1970s Paganne Dress by Gene Berk Aztec Print Size M

$195.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is an early 1970s Paganne dress made by Gene Berk.  This 1970s Paganne dress features a wonderful novelty print in black and white with a pattern influenced by Aztec design - motifs include calendar wheels and animals including snakes, turtles, llama heads and rabbits.  The dress is made with a high rounded neckline, wrist length sleeves and does up the back with a nylon zipper with two hooks and eyes at the neck.  It is unlined.  Note the attached photo taken in 1971 of Grace Slick of the Jefferson Airplane wearing a longer version of the dress.

Label:  The label is missing but would have originally read Paganne Gene Berk (I’ve had a similar dress in the past).  Gene Berk started his company in 1965 after a career in menswear merchandising and working for Oleg Cassini.  He conceived many of his own designs, sending them to Italy to be put into final sketch form.

Fabric:  Unmarked, but the label would have read as Banlon nylon jersey so there is some stretch or “give” to the fabric.  Label on my other 1970s Paganne dress read “Ban-lon All Textralized Nylon Hand Washable Use Cool Iron”.

Sizing: The size label is missing and although this 1970s Paganne dress should fit a medium size, please note the following measurements for fit, keeping the style and cut of the garment in mind:

Shoulders:  15” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves:  22” long

Sleeve inseam: 16 3/4”

Bust:  34” around

Waist: 32” around

Hips:  35”-36”

Length:  41”, measured flat

Condition: This 1970s Paganne dress is in very good condition with no wear, tear, staining or odour - it looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years

This is a striking black and white 1970s Paganne dress!
