From the 1920s here's a rare and rather fabulous men's plush fedora hat made by Woodrow & Sons at their Stockport factory in Northwest England. The hat was made sometimes around 1920, or it may actually date a little earlier. It is made in a very attractive golden sand brown color and sports a contrasting light brown grosgrain ribbon and bow around the base of the crown. The brim is turned at the edge, and in this way, it resembles the homburg style that was in style at the that time.

It is unlined, but retains its original paper label that identifies it as a size 7. It may actually be a modern size 7 1/8 or 7 1/4 as it measures 22 1/2” around the interior opening.  The crown measures 5 1/4 and the brim 2 1/4.  The grosgrain ribbon is a more recent replacement.

It is in very good condition - a couple of small "faults" in the plush at the upper front that look like the plush is not aligned directionally, but this is minor.  There looks to be a nibble at the back of the crown any other nibbles or flaws are covered by the plush when combed.

The color is lighter than it appears in the photos especially when viewed in sunlight it is more of a light brown like a taupe brown.

This is a rare example - one can picture Lord Grantham on Downton Abbey wearing this hat.

A colleague of mine found a similar one in a 1919 catalog page and it was described as a pencil curl fedora.
