Antique Reed & Barton Tilting Spirit Kettle w Stand & Burner
$250.00
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a silver-plated antique Reed & Barton tilting spirit kettle on its original stand and with its original burner. This antique Reed & Barton tilting spirit kettle is fully marked with the Reed & Barton logo and the pattern number No. 3760. It features an ornate Rococo Revival design with scrollwork on the spout, handle, and stand. The kettle tilts for easy pouring and rests securely in its cradle, however, the locking pins are missing both from the front and back even though the chains are still present - it should be fairly easy to improvise pins, if desired. Ivory-tone insulators are present on the handle. A script monogram that appears to be "HCS" is engraved on either side of the kettle. The kettle has a capacity of 8 cups, filled to the top.
This type of spirit kettle was used in the late 19th to early 20th century to keep water hot at the table, ideal for serving tea.
Material: Silver plate over white metal, substantial and fairly heavy for its size, weighing 4 lbs.
Markings: Med. & Plated by Reed & Barton, Taunton, Mass. No. 3760. This particular mark was used circa 1880 until about 1910.
Height (overall): Approx. 12 3/4 inches
Width (handle to spout): Approx. 10 inches
Stand opening: 3 7/8”
Condition: This kettle is in very good condition with some minor surface wear, light scratches, and a few shallow dings (see last close-up photos) consistent with age and use. The silver plating remains bright. Burner is complete. It is very clean both on the interior and bottom - looks like it saw no use. Any damage would have been caused during storage or display over the last 120 or so years.
It is unusual to find a spirit kettle that was unused and complete with its original stand and burner - despite the small defects, it displays beautifully and is an excellent example of a quality antique Reed & Barton tilting spirit kettle!
