This is a Sonia Rykiel intarsia sweater that features a wonderful graphic of an intersecting man’s and woman’s face. The faces are rendered in strong tones of yellow, gold, orange, magenta, blue, purple, green and flesh tone. There are pink rhinestones affixed to the woman’s lips. This Sonia Rykiel intarsia sweater is made in a pullover style with a jewel neckline that is decorated with a matching bow at the centre front. It has 3/4 length sleeves. It has raised seams on the exterior, a technique that Rykiel pioneered. The bottom left of this Sonia Rykiel intarsia sweater has a metal SR affixed to it.
Sonia Rykiel began designing in 1962 because she was pregnant and couldn’t find a sweater that would fit her properly. She started her business in 1965 and became noticed by Vogue magazine in 1967. She opened her flagship store in Paris in 1968.
