Vintage 1940s Royal Military College of Canada RMC Wool Great Coat - 1949

$350.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a vintage great coat used at the Royal Military College of Canada.  The “Bond Clothes” tailor’s label states the original owner’s name and has a date of Sept 1949.  It is made of a melton cloth type of wool, veryy heavy and tightly woven.  The buttons read “Royal Military College Canada” around the words “Truth Duty Valor” which surround the St Edward’s crown, which was used from 1901 until 1952.  The coat is cut to follow the body silhouette, wide at the shoulders and tailored at the waist.  It closes at the neck with two hooks and eyes and with four buttons at the right side.  The front of the coat flaps over to close, but the top buttons can be left undone to create two large lapels.  There is a faux belt at the back that is decorated with three brass RMC buttons.  There is a diagonally flapped pocket at either side.  The interior is half-lined in a fabric that I’ve normally only seen in Victorian/Edwardian garment, a twill satin, maybe natural rayon.

Sizing: No size is indicated, but it should fit a medium size, probably a 38/40 - please note the following measurements, taken from the exterior, for fit, taking the cut of the coat, especially the waist size, and the thickness of the fabric into account (deduct an inch or two to compensate):

Shoulders:  19” from shoulder seam to shoulder seam

Sleeves: 25 1/2”

Sleeve Inseam:  18”

Chest: 44” around, taken under the arms

Waist:  36” around

Hips:  44” around

Length:  51”

Condition:  It is in very good condition - no noted defects, this coat has been very well cared for and stored over the years.

This is a rare coat, very striking with the brass buttons and the fabulous style - part of Canadian military history!
