Vintage 1960s Three Musketeers Theatre Quality Costume 3 Piece French Cavalier

This is a beautifully made vintage French musketeer costume! The costume is comprised of three pieces - pantaloons, top and cape.  It is a high quality costume that is made of heavy grade green cotton velvet that is decorated with glass “jewels”, metallic silver rickrack and with a red velvet cross on the front of the cape, accented with metallic gold appliqué and stitching.  The sleeves on the jacket have independent “strips”, as was the fashion of the time. The pantaloons are elasticized and close with a nylon zipper.  The costume appears to be hand finished.     

Age: late 1950s / early 1960s.  The use of nylon zippers would indicate 1960s, but the materials utilized and the workmanship makes me think late 50s.

Material: Very nice quality cotton velvet that is lined in green taffeta on the jacket and black acetate on the cape.

Sizing: No size is indicated, as it was custom made, but this should fit a medium to large size, probably a size 40/42.  Please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the velvet into consideration) and note the sizing of the cape as opposed to the jacket:

Shoulders: 20” across shoulder seam-to-seam 

Sleeves: 24 1/2” from shoulder seam

Sleeve Inseam: 19 1/2” long

Chest: 45” around, taken under the arms

Overall length: 22", measured flat

Chest:  56” around, must accommodate arms

Length:  30” long

Pants:

Waist: 27”, stretches out to 36”

Leg Inseam: 19” long

Condition: This costume is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, stains or odors.  It looks like it saw very little use and was very well kept over the years.  

This is a wonderful costume - professionally made, with beautiful materials.  All that you would need to complete it would be boots and a hat…..
