$495.00
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This striking vintage 1950s Mexican circle skirt and top set features a black velvet top and matching full circle skirt, both elaborately decorated with hand-applied sequins and metallic paint. The bodice displays a large golden eagle with outstretched wings—echoing the Mexican national emblem—while the skirt features detailed scenes of Mesoamerican temples, native plants, figures in headdress, perhaps cooking or performing a ceremony, and stylized landscapes. The front of the skirt has a temple as its central motif while the back has a sequinned eagle.
Entirely hand-decorated, this vintage 1950s Mexican circle skirt and top set exemplifies the artistry of the mid-century Mexican tourist trade. The skirt is pleated at the waist for fullness and movement, and the top is trimmed in coordinating sequins. These vintage 1950s Mexican circle skirt and top sets were popular as statement pieces for tourists and special events, often sold in Mexico City, Taxco, or Guadalajara.
