$375.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This framed 18th century silk embroidery features a symmetrical design with two metallic-thread cornucopias overflowing with vibrant florals, including striped roses, morning glories, carnations, and daisies. The embroidery is stitched in silk floss and chenille on a watered moiré silk ground, a hallmark of 18th century silk embroidery crafted in England or early America around 1780–1810.

The metallic thread cornucopias and finely shaded flowers highlight the skill of the needleworker, likely a student in a finishing school or seminary where 18th century silk embroidery was part of a refined education. The textile is set behind glass in a giltwood frame with a beaded edge, original to the period.

This 18th century silk embroidery panel measures approximately 9 3/4" by 18", and the frame measures 10 3/4" by 19".

Condition:
This embroidery shows visible damage to the upper left corner, where moisture has caused staining and loss of silk ground and stitching. The rest of the panel remains bright and intact. The frame has minor gilt loss and surface wear, consistent with age.

This is a decorative and historical example of 18th century silk embroidery that remains display-worthy despite localized loss.
