This is a fabulous 1960s vintage Cojana coat made using Liberty of London fabric - please read more about Cojana further down this page.  The fabric used to make this vintage Cojana coat is woven with coarse knit purple diagonal stripes alternating with similar stripes in black and in an ombré red to orange pattern.  This vintage Cojana coat also has black bands down the centre front, sides, edging the collar and accenting the cut of the coat at the back.  It has a collar that can be worn up or down (see photos) and an eight button double breasted front that can be buttoned up to the neck or left open at the top to form lapels.  The shoulders are squared and the sleeves are wrist length so that one could expose one’s gloves.  The back is pleated at the bottom to flare out to the hemline.  There is a velvet-like lined pocket built into either side.  This vintage Cojana coat is fully lined in a black taffeta fabric.
Label:  Cojana Made in England.  Cojana was located at 18 Great Marlborough St., London and was incorporated in 1966 although it certainly existed before incorporation.  They specialized in coats, but also produced suits a well as dresses at their factory in Islington.  Their coats were sold at Harrods, but they also were a contract manufacturer for Chanel.  They would buy their patterns from the Paris design houses such as Dior and Chanel and also had in-house designers.  Lady Diana acquired her engagement suit, which was made by Cojana, from Harrods.
