Vintage 1950s Jacques Fath Paris Silk Twill Scarf Modernist Rose Flowers 30.5 Inch

This is a lovely quality silk twill scarf made by the Paris fashion house of Jacques Fath.  Fath, along with Dior and Balmain is considered one of the most important post-war couturiers.  The scarf features a modernist representation of roses in tones of red with purple leaves, all outlined in indigo against a yellow and ochre swirled background with patches of off-white, perhaps somewhat similar in style to abstract expressionism.  I believe that it dates to the 50s or very early 60s. 

It has a hand rolled edge and is signed “Jacques Fath” within the print at the bottom right.  The scarf measures 30.5” square and is in very good condition with no wear, tear, soiling or odour - I noticed one very short thread pull, really very minor and not at all noticeable.  It shouldn’t bother anyone at all, but is mentioned in the interest of full disclosure.

Jacques Fath (1912-1954) opened his Paris fashion house in 1937 and is known for having been one of the first haute couture designer to enter into a pret-a-porter design contract, having entered into an agreement with American dress manufacturer Joseph Halpet in 1949.  His fashion house ceased to produce haute couture in 1957, three years after his death, but continued to produce accessories such as belts, scarves, hosiery, perfumes and gloves.
