Vintage Native American Indian Lidded Basket Curly Ash & Sweetgrass Woodland Tribe

$150.00

This is a wonderful old lidded basket made of ash splint with curly-que or porcupine twist detail, made by a Native American Indian of a Woodland tribe, perhaps Micmac, Pasamaquoddy or Penobscot but it might even be Iroquois, Im not sure. The basket is quite deep, so the cover itself is also fairly deep - you could actually use this as two separate baskets should you wish to (see photos). This is a quite old basket, if not antique, at least close to being so. It measures 5 1/2 in height with a top diameter of 8 1/4, exclusive of the curly-ques. It is in very good condition with two or three missing curly-ques and a few damaged curly-ques or splints - please view the photos for condition. Otherwise, this is intact and looks great. This is a lovely display piece - many hours of work went into making this wonderful example of Native American Indian handwork!
