This is a small, but very heavy piece of glass made in Murano, unsigned, but attributed to the Seguso Vetri dArte, which specialized in the sommerso technique of glassmaking. The piece is made in a bowl form - I dont think that it is an ashtray as the opening is too small to allow a cigarette to properly rest. It is made of a bright green glass with blue and red wisps of colour trapped within. It measures 4 1/4 square with a height of 2 1/2 and weighs 2 lbs and 12 oz, amazingly heavy for its size. It is hand polished on its underside and is in very good condition with the exception of a shallow chip to the underside at the edge of the base (see last close-up photo) - could be sanded smooth, but it really is not noticeable under normal viewing. In addition, there are some stress lines at the base, but these are original to the making of the piece and, again, very minor (see second to last close-up photo). This is a very attractive piece of mid-century glass - beautiful colour, wonderful accent piece in the right decor!
