This is a vintage portfolio titled Designs for Textile Decoration by Gabriel Andre Petit, published in 1927 by Fireside Industries of Adrian, Michigan. It consists of 25 different loose full sheet designs plus a Preface and Instructions sheet along with a maroon coloured cover folder that is printed on its front with a lady and child amidst decorative splendour. Each sheet measures 11 by 14 and is in very clean condition. The cover has a bit of tearing along the spine. Amongst the designs are monograms, patterns for aprons, handkerchiefs, scarves, curtains, dresses, pillows, table runners childrens clothing etc. All the designs can be used for textile painting, block printing, batik etc.
Gabriel Andre Petit (1878-1932) was born in Paris and was an authority on art. He was art director at Fireside Industries and was appointed by President Hoover in 1925 (then secretary of commerce) to report on the International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Art in Paris.
