Large Vintage 1940s Hutschenreuther Porcelain Figurine Girl w Greyhounds K Tutter

This is a wonderful large porcelain figurine designed by Karl Tutter for Hutschenreuther of Germany. Karl Tutter (1883-1969) studied art in Austria, spent WWI as a prisoner of war in Siberia, and upon release did modelling work for the Tettau porcelain factory, then for Sitzendorfer Porcelain and finally, in 1922 went to work as a modeller for Hutschenreuther. He became art director at Hutschenreuther, staying there until 1956, becoming especially known for his art deco designs. This large figurine depicts a girl or young woman walking two greyhound dogs. Tutters training as a sculptor is very evident in this piece, which portrays a strong sense of movement - note her hair and dress and how they look to be wind blown. The dogs also have a real life awareness with the front dog peering intently out while the dog at the rear has his head turned back, looking at something of interest. The figure is glazed in white and coloured underglaze with tones of blue, brown, grey and black. The piece is impressed on its base with K. Tutter. It is also marked on its underside with the Hutschenreuther lion mark, which reads Hutschenreuther Selb Germany Kunstabteilung US Zone - this mark dates the piece to between 1946 and 1950. The piece measures 12 1/2 in height, 15 in width and 5 in depth. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or wear.
