This is a beautiful art deco print titled Pierrot. Pierrot, however, appears to be depicted as a female, although I cant be sure. The print was published by Sidney Z Lucas of New York. Sidney Zoltan Lucas (1896-1966) was a prolific publisher of art prints, establishing the Camilla Lucas Publishing Company in 1928. He would travel to Europe several times a year to commission work by artists, mostly French or Flemish, who would title and sign in pencil under the print, which was usually an aquatint or etching. My understanding is that these aquatints or etchings were usually limited to an edition of 350 to 500.
This print is captioned Pierrot and signed Faure in the margin. The SZL logo appears next to Pierrot. The character is dressed like Pierrot, but looks to possess female features - note the long eyelashes, small hands and fee and jawbone. The bottom left corner is printed No. 1012 Made in U.S.A.. The oval opening in the matte measures 71/2 by 9 3/4 while the frame measures 11 3/4 by 14 3/4. I photographed the print out of the frame and also in the frame. The frame is a simple white painted wood, but the paint is chipped and worn. There was glass over the print, so it has been protected, but the top matte has some moisture staining - the print was unaffected. You might want to re-frame, so at least re-matte the print and paint the frame.
This is a beautiful image - lovely display piece for the boudoir!
