This is an antique biscuit barrel or jar that is made of opaque glass with a silverplated rim, cover and handle. The piece is unmarked, but undoubtedly made by Mt Washinton (Pairpoint) as part of the Wave Crest line and decorated by C.F. Monroe of Meriden, CT. It should be noted that C.F. Monroe marked their more commercial pieces, but finer pieces are generally unmarked and may have had paper labels rather than marks. It is difficult to mistake a Wave Crest piece and this one is obviously Wave Crest. The handle is ornately formed as it the finial of the lid. The piece is made in a tall squared shape and the glass is molded with scroll detailing. It is painted in a light blue colour with floral transfer decoration on two sides. It measures 6 1/2 in height to the top of the rim and 10 1/2 to the top of the handle when the handle is in the upright position. It has a width and depth of about 5 and weighs 2 lbs and 8.4 oz. It is in very good condition with no chips, cracks or wear - theres some dried silver polish on the rim and a few dark marks on the sides of the piece, but this can be easily cleaned up. C.F. Monroe went out of business in 1916, so this pre-dates that year. This is a very nice Wave Crest biscuit barrel / cracker jar - Ive seen similar ones in a square shape, but not in this taller version. Great display piece, lovely quality!
