This is a Victorian folding button hook that is made of 14 karat gold.  This Victorian folding button hook is unmarked, but tested, and guaranteed to be 14k.  It is part of the collection of button hooks that was amassed by a long time collector.   It is a folding model that has a notched hinge so that it holds in place, whether folded within itself or extended out.  The buttonhook has a top loop with an additional removable loop so that it can be attached to a chatelaine.  This size of buttonhook would have been used as an aid in putting on gloves.  It is a small piece, measuring 1 1/8” in height exclusive of the top loop and 7/8” in width at its widest.  It weighs 5 grams and is in excellent condition.
