Vintage 1960s Black Velvet Evening Gown Haute Couture - Frank Oujezdsky

$245.00

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a lovely quality black velvet evening gown made by Montreal couturier Frank Oujezdsky.

This dress dates to the 1960s and is a beautifully made strapless gown.  The bodice is gathered in diagonal seams that meet at a point at the centre of the waistline - it is cut to accentuate the body silhouette.  It is trimmed in black glass beads along the neckline and the hemline.  The dress is lined in a black faille taffeta fabric and is entirely hand finished.

A bit of information about the couturier  Oujezdsky catered to Montreal socialites and is also noted for having made dresses for Gerda Munsinger, the central character in a Canadian spy and sex scandal involving government ministers during the early 1960s.

Fabric: Exceptionally good quality black velvet, probably silk velvet.  Extremely soft and luxurious, with substantial weight so that it falls beautifully.

Sizing: This will fit a medium size, but please rely on the following measurements for fit, noting the style of the dress:

Shoulders:  17” across

Bust:  36” around

Waist:  28” around

Hips:  36”-38” around

Length:  55”, measured flat

Condition:  This is in very good condition with no wear, tear, staining or odor - this dress looks to have seen little use and was well cared for over the years.

This is a gorgeous evening dress - understated, sophisticated and elegant, perfect for a formal occasion.  Great piece for the student of Canadian fashion history - Oujezdsky obviously created beautiful dresses!
