Vintage 1970s Yves Saint Laurent Peasant Look Blouse and Skirt - L

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a wonderful vintage 1970s era peasant look blue and black check blouse & skirt ensemble made in France by Yves Saint Laurent Paris. The set came from an estate where there were hundreds of pieces of Parisian designer clothing, much of it unused.  This ensemble looks to me to be an "opulent peasant" look - Saint Laurent introduced the peasant look in 1976. The blouse has a Russian look to the neckline, accented in black velvet and buttoning on the side. The sleeves are roomy at the upper arm and cinched at the cuff with, again, in black velvet. The blouse is made with some length, and I have posed it tucked into the skirt as well as out of the skirt. The back photo shows a black velvet belt, please note this is not included. The skirt is long and accented with ruffles. The fabric is quite glittery - this is a wonderful holiday season ensemble.

Label: Yves Saint Laurent Paris Tricot Made in France.

The labels were cut off but I had one other outfit exactly like this which still had the original labels that stated -  “85% Cotton / 15% Metallic”.   I will show that photo here but please take note that this outfit no longer has this actual fabric content label as it was cut off by the original owner.  I am simply showing it to show what the fabric content is.

Sizing: Size 44 on the skirt only.  The size label on the top was cut off.  These are vintage French sizes, so please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the garment into consideration:

Blouse:

Shoulders: 16" across from shoulder seam to shoulder seam

Sleeves: 24" from shoulder seam

Bust: 46" around, meant to hang somewhat loosely

Waist: 45”, but meant to be cinched

Bottom:  45"

Overall length: 25", measured flat

Skirt:

Waist: 30“

Hips: 48" around, but meant to hang loosely

Length: 39“ long, measured flat

It's in excellent condition - very clean and like much of the items from the estate, it looks like it saw no use.  This has been well kept and stored over the years.

This is a striking blouse and skirt ensemble by one of the greatest Parisian couturiers, a fabulous piece that is sure to be noticed.
