This is a fabulous vintage 1950s taffeta dress made with a woven fabric, similar to taffeta, that has a puckered appearance that I believe is referred to as cloqué.  I posed this 1950s taffeta dress dress with a crinoline - the crinoline is not included with the dress, but if you want to re-create a full skirt 50s look, you would need to use one, even though the dress is very usable without a crinoline. This 1950s taffeta dress has raglan style elbow length sleeves, a wide V shaped neckline, a wide band waist, and a skirt that is cut like a circle.  There is a pocket built into the right side and the dress closes with a metal zipper at the left side.  It comes with a matching belt that cinches the waist.  The fabric is lined in green taffeta around the lower skirt and with muslin through the rest of the dress.

Label: None, but I believe that this 1950s taffeta dress was manufactured - if not, the seamstress was extremely skilled, it is very well made.   It came from a well-to-do Italian lady who bought some of her wardrobe from Italian designers of the era.  This dress, however, has a Lightning brand zipper, which was a Canadian brand of zipper, so this dress most likely has a Canadian origin.

Sizing: No size is indicated on this 1950s taffeta dress but this should fit a size small - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking into the style of the dress into account:

Bust: 36” around, estimated, difficult to measure due to cut of the sleeve
Empire Waist - seam right under the bust - 28 1/2
Waist: 26” around
Hips: 48”,full, but meant to fall loosely
Overall length: 46”, measured flat from the top shoulder to the hemline

Condition:  This 1950s taffeta dress is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, marks, stains or odours.  This has been well stored over the last 65 or so years.

The colour is really striking on this 1950s taffeta dress - absolutely wonderful example of 50s fashion!
