Vintage 1950s Hostess Pyjamas Beatrice Pines Asian Pattern Lounging Pajamas Sz S

This is a crisp pair of lounging pajamas / pyjamas made by Beatrice Pines of Montreal.  The set consists of a brocade jacket top that is woven with motifs consisting of Chinese flora, people and pagodas, and with black satin pants.  The pattern is in tones of red, pink, green and yellow against a blue satin background.  The jacket has an Asian collar and closes with four brass toned buttons down the front.  It has a pocket built into either front side trimmed in yellow piping.  The pants close at the side with three clear plastic buttons and are made in a capri length. 

Age: 1950s, maybe early 1960s

Label: Styled by Beatrice Pines.  Cardboard tag reads “Beatrice Pines Inc.. Montreal”.  Beatrice Pines started her clothing business during the early 1950s with her husband Irving Cutler, after working for sleepwear manufacturers for six years following her studies in fashion design at the Traphagan School in New York (James Galanos, Geoffrey Beene and Anne Klein are alumni). They eventually grew the business to 100 employees in Montreal with an additional facility located in Granby, Quebec.  She became known as a designer of swimwear and sold the business in 1968, continuing to work for the new owner.

Material:  Satin, most likely rayon.

Size:  Size S for small is indicated, but please rely on the following measurements for fit taking the style of the garment into account:

Shoulders: 15 1/2” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam

Sleeves: 16” long

Sleeve Inseam: 9 1/2” long

Bust:  41”, taken under the arms

Bottom: 42" around

Length:  23”, measured flat

Pants:

Waist:  24”

Leg Inseam: 24 1/2” long 

Length: 37", measured lying flat

Condition:  The set is in excellent condition - I think that it is unused old store stock because it came from an estate where the people had had a clothing store.
