40s Clothing

1940s fashion reflected both the austerity of WWII and a return to glamour later in the decade. The war years produced knee-length hemlines, tailored dress suits with broad shoulders, utility clothing and trousers for women. In 1947, Dior introduced his New Look with its full skirts and wasp waist and the decade also laid the foundations for ready to wear clothing and American sportswear.
