This is a woman’s lightweight straw hat made in a stylized fedora shape.  The hat is made with hemp straw and is decorated with a brown and tan grosgrain band around the base of the crown.  The crown is indented at the top and the brim is upturned at the edge.  The hat is unlined.  The opening measures 21 3/4” around, so this should fit a medium sized head.

Age: 1960s / early 1970s

Label: Hats by Edward Mann - Always Making Fashion News - Made in England and shows a line drawing of a face under a diamond shaped hat.

Edward Mann was a London based milliner who was right in the middle of the 60s fashion revolution that was characterized by Carnaby Street.  There is an iconic photograph of Patti Boyd and Celia Hammond wearing graphic printed helmet hats that one can view on the net.  Edward Mann also was responsible for designing hats for Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) on the 60s television series “The Avengers”.

Condition:  In excellent condition - one tiny piece of straw sticking out at the front edge, really minor, just needs to be snipped.  Otherwise, this looks to have seen very little use.

This is an interesting hat by an influential 60s milliner - great summer hat!
