This is a very nice quality Stetson bowler hat that was made in Philadelphia, but sold in the Netherlands. A bowler is called a derby in the United States, but basically they are the same type of hat. This Stetson bowler is made in a classic bowler/derby form with turned rim lined in grosgrain. The crown has a black grosgrain ribbon around it base. It is lined in white satin that is printed in black with “John B. Stetson Company Select Quality” and with the Stetson coat of arms that reads “American Manufacture”. The sweatband is gold stamped similarly along with “Imported From America”. The sweatband is also gold stamped with the retailer’s name “N.V. JS Meuwsen Hofleverancier (court supplier) Amsterdam Den Haag-Rotterdam”. The original owner’s initials are also gold stamped, which read “P.J.T.” The inventory tag has the size on it, which reads “Size 7 1/4” with a depth of 5 1/4. The opening measures 23 1/4” around the sweatband and 6 5/8” by 8 1/4” across the opening. This Stetson bowler is in very good condition with no wear, tear or soiling except for one small spot to the lining, very minor - otherwise, this has been very well cared for over the years. This Stetson bowler is difficult to date precisely, but I think that it dates to the 1930s
This is a wonderful Stetson bowler that has made its way back to this side of the ocean…..
