Vintage Sonia Rykiel Sweater 1980s Taupe Wool Angora Ladies Size Small 36

This is a sweater designed by Sonia Rykiel, known as the “queen of the knits”.  The sweater is made in a very attractive solid taupe colour.  It has shoulder pads, long batwing shaped sleeves and a collared neckline that is decorated with a bow in matching colour.  It does up the back with nine buttons and has ties at the lower back that cinch the waist.

Label: Sonia Rykiel Paris Made in Italy. Sonia Rykiel began designing in 1962 because she was pregnant and couldn’t find a sweater that would fit her properly.  She started her business in 1965 and became noticed by Vogue magazine in 1967.  She opened her flagship store in Paris in 1968. 

Color: Taupe brown

Material: 80% wool/20% rabbit hair angora

Sizing: French size 36 is indicated but please note the following measurements, all taken with the wool unstretched:

Shoulders:  15” across seam-to-seam

Sleeves:  25 1/2” long, with the cuff unturned

Sleeve Inseam:  25 1/2”

Bust:  36” around, approximated due to batwing sleeve

Bottom:  24” around, unstretched

Length: 24”

Condition: It is in very good condition with no wear, tear, holes or stains or odors - this looks like it saw little use and was very well kept over the years. 

This is a very nice quality sweater by an important Parisian designer......attractive colour, style and detail.....
