This is a gorgeous old hand sequined parrot appliqué that came from the remaining inventory of the workshop of a lady who had a trim and sequining business from the 1930s through to the 1960s. She supplied many of the dressmakers and couturiers located in Canada and the US. I estimate that this piece most likely dates to the 1940s due to its style and the type of sequins used. It is hand applied onto a buckram type mesh backing - it is quite amazing how much work went into this. It is quite a good sized piece (note scale as posed on dress), measuring 12 1/2” in height. Beautiful colours on this piece - purple, green, blue and gold with superior brilliance as these, I believe, are the old gelatin type. Wonderful piece to incorporate into a creation of your own!
