This is a beautiful quality mens fedora hat made by the venerable hatmaker P&C Habig of Austria, founded by brothers Peter and Carl Habig in 1865. This hat is made in a very attractive grey colour with a medium width brim, medium height crown and black grosgrain ribbon and bow around the base of the crown. The hat is stamped on the upper interior lining with “P&C Habig Wien Special”. The leather sweatband is also stamped “P&C Habig Wien”. The sweatband is also gold stamped with the original owner’s initials “FST”. There was a folded page from a German advertisement that was under the sweatband, I guess to tighten the band around the owner’s head - I think that it dated to the late 1950s or early 60, a clue to the age of this hat, which stylistically looks to be of that period. I believe that this should fit a size 7 1/8. It measures 22 3/8” around the sweatband and 6 1/2” by 7 3/4” across the opening. The brim measures 2 1/8” in width (2 1/4” at the back) and the crown has a height of 4 5/8”. It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear - this hat looks to have seen little use and has been very well cared for over the years. This is a top quality hat - great style and colour!
