This is a vintage mink fur coat made in a light brown color that I believe is referred to as “dawn” or “autumn haze”. The coat is made in a classic style - rounded, wide lapel that can be worn up or down, raglan sleeves, slight flare down the body of the coat, below the knee length and with a slit pocket built-in to either side. It does up with three hooks and eyes down the front as well as with an additional hook should you wish to do up the neckline. It is fully lined in a bronze colored satin taffeta. The coat dates to between 1972 and 1978.
Label: Simpsons. Simpsons was a Montreal department store that branched into a chain. It featured good value for money, and like all Montreal stores, had an in-house fur boutique to cater to customers dealing with Canadian winter. Simpson’s dropped their apostrophe in 1972 and became Simpson in 1978, so it is easy to date this coat to between 1972 and 1978.
Sizing: Size 16 is indicated, so this should fit a large size, but please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fur into account:
Shoulders and sleeves: 27 1/2” long from the neck seam to the end of the sleeve
Sleeve Inseam: 15”
Bust: 42” around
Waist: 40” around
Hips: 42” around
Hemline: 52” around
Length: 40”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no wear, tears, splits, odor or stains. The fur is glossy and fresh and I’m sure that this coat was cold stored and well cared for over the years.
This is a very nice quality mink fur coat - easy to wear style, in very nice condition at a very reasonable price!
