This is a vintage silk tie that was sold at the exclusive mens’ haberdashery Chemisier David, located at 32 avenue de l’Opera, Paris. The tie is woven with paintings (art), I think well known paintings, but, of course, the replication is not exact. I believe that the tie dates to the 1930s, but it is possible that it may be early 40s. It appears to be quite short, but according to a guide that I read, its length of 49” would be more consistent with 1940s era, although I don’t know if that is a hard and fast rule. Personally, I’m getting I know that Chemisier David was founded in 1879 and I found examples of their stationery dating to the 1920s online, but otherwise, I do not know when they closed their doors.
Sizing: 49” long by 4” in width at the widest
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear or soiling - this has been very well stored over the years.
This is a rare necktie from a well known Paris mens’ store, a little piece of history - wonderful addition to a collection!
