Vintage Mens 1950s Wool Overcoat Checked Coat by Karamoor Excellent Size M
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a wonderful men’s overcoat dating the late 1950s or very early 60s. It has the ACWA union label affixed to it that was used between 1949 and 1962. Besides being made in a very attractive style with a subtle checked quality wool fabric, it looks like it was never used - it is very crisp, especially so for a 50s coat. The coat is made in a classic style with higher set medium width notched lapels. It has a flapped pocket at either side. The exterior is made of a heavier weight wool and the interior is fully lined in navy blue satin. The coat has a 13 1/2” single back vent and a three button front closure - there is a buttonhole on the left lapel that would allow you to close the neck, but there is no corresponding and no evidence of there ever having been a button. The sleeves have three button cuffs. The colour is a greenish grey with a grey blue check.
Label: Superfine Coating Karamoor Loomed of Fine Wool.
Retailer’s label: Oxford Clothes
Sizing: There is no size tag but this should fit a medium to large size, probably about a US size 40/42 regular, more like a 40, especially if you’re wearing a jacket underneath - note the width across the shoulders. Please note the following measurements for fit, taking the cut and thickness of the fabric into account as well as the length of the sleeves and the overall length of the coat:
Shoulders: 19” from shoulder seam to shoulder seam
Sleeves: 25” from the shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 16”
Chest: 45” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 44” around
Hips: 46” around
Length: 40”, measured flat
Condition: It is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, stains or odours. This coat looks to have seen little, if any, use and has been very well cared for and stored over the last 60 years.
This is a beautiful quality coat in exceptional condition - excellent style and colour!
