Vintage Houndstooth Harris Tweed Mens Jacket St Michael Size Medium
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This product is unavailable
This is an early 1990s era Harris tweed jacket that was made by Marks & Spencer under their “St Michael” brand. The fabric is made in a houndstooth pattern wool in tones of green, red, brown and tan. The jacket has a flapped pocket at either side and a pocket at the left chest. It has medium width notched lapels and closes with three leather covered buttons at the lower front. There are three similar buttons at either cuff and the back bottom has a double vent. The jacket is fully lined in a green toned viscose fabric. It has a pocket built into the interior at either side.
Age: The label reads “Maarks and Spencer p.l.c. ’91, so I assume that this dates to the early 1990s
Label: St Michael from Marks & Spencer Pure New Wool
Fabric label: Harris Tweed label with the authentic mark of the Orb, and a serial number
Fabric: 100% Scottish Wool tweed
Sizing: Medium size 40 chest is indicated - from my experience, you normally size the jacket about 2” to 4” smaller than the chest, so although it says 40” chest, I think that this is more like a US size 42. To be sure of fit, please rely on the following measurements (compare measurements with a similar jacket that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment into account):
Shoulders: 20” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 26” from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve inseam: 17 1/2”
Chest: 45” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 41” around
Overall length: 30 1/2”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no stains, odors, wear or tears - this jacket looks to have seen very little use and has been well cared for over the years.
Mark & Spencer clothing was well made and this jacket is no exception - well tailored and made of quality Harris Tweed fabric in an attractive pattern....
