This is a vintage Harris tweed jacket or sport coat that was made by Dunn & Co of Great Britain, probably during the 1960s. The fabric is woven in a herringbone pattern with vertical striping. It is in tones of brown and grey which gives the jacket an overall appearance of brown, a little towards a greenish tone. The jacket is tailored with a fitted waist and padded shoulders. It has a diagonal flapped pocket at either side and a pocket at the left chest. It has high set fairly wide notched lapels and closes with two leather covered shank buttons at the front. There is a similar smaller button at either cuff and the back bottom has a center vent. The jacket is fully lined in a tan brown satin rayon fabric. It has a pocket built into the interior at either side.
Label: Dunn & Co. Great Britain
Fabric label: Harris Tweed label with the authentic mark of the Orb, Expressly Handwoven by The Crofters for Dunn & Co.
Fabric: 100% Scottish Wool tweed
Sizing: There is no size but from my experience American sizing on jackets is usually 4” smaller than chest size, so this would be about a size 38 - please rely on the following measurements for fit (compare measurements with a similar jacket that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment into account):
Shoulders: 18” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 25” from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve inseam: 17”
Chest: 42” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 37” around
Overall length: 31”, measured flat
Condition: The exterior is in very good condition with no stains, odors, pronounced wear or tears, but the lining has a tiny tear at the back that would need a few stitches and some discolouration to the armpits (see last close-up photo). You could either affix shields over that area, or cut and replace the fabric/ Otherwise, this jacket looks very presentable..
This is a well tailored jacket made with a beautiful quality tweed fabric - with a bit of work, many years of use left in this!
