This is a vintage Harris tweed jacket or sport coat that was made by Dunn & Co of Great Britain, probably during the 1960s. The fabric is woven in a barleycorn pattern in a number of tones - black, grey and brown which gives the jacket an overall appearance of a muted brownish grey. The jacket is tailored with a fitted waist and padded shoulders. It has a flapped pocket at either side and a pocket at the left chest. It has medium width notched lapels and closes with two faux leather plastic buttons at the front. There is a similar smaller button at either cuff and the back bottom has a double vent back flap. The jacket is fully lined in a tan coloured polyester fabric. It has a pocket built into the interior at either side.
Label: Dunn & Co. Great Britain
Fabric label: Harris Tweed label with the authentic mark of the Orb, Expressly Woven by The Crofters for Dunn & Co.
Fabric: 100% Scottish Wool tweed
Sizing: There is no size but from my experience American sizing on jackets is usually 4” smaller than chest size, so this would be about a size 40 - please rely on the following measurements for fit (compare measurements with a similar jacket that you presently own or to your own body measurements, taking the cut of the garment into account):
Shoulders: 18” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 25” from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeve inseam: 17 1/2”
Chest: 44” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 40” around
Overall length: 30”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no stains, odors, wear or tears - there are some slightly darker areas, but I think that this is just the black part of the weave predominating. Otherwise, this jacket looks to have seen very little use and has been well cared for over the years.
This is a well tailored jacket made with a beautiful quality tweed fabric - many years of use left in this, great jacket if it fits!
