This is an early Giorgio Armani “white label” men’s overcoat dating to the 1970s. The “Giorgio Armani Made in Italy” white label was replaced by the Giorgio Armani Le Collezioni line, which was introduced in 1979, so this coat pre-dates 1979. It features a long silhouette with padded shoulders, jetted breast and flapped side pockets, long notched lapels, no waist seam or front darts, four button double breasted front, three button cuffs and a single 20” kick vent at the back. It is fully lined in black viscose rayon. The exterior is made of 70% wool, and 30% cashmere.
Retailer’s label: Eleganza Uomo Atlantic City, NJ. Eleganza is a boutique in existence since about 1970, specialized in luxury brands.
Sizing: No size 38 is indicated, but this should fit a large size, about 42/44 long. Please note the following measurements for fit, taking the cut and thickness of the fabric into account:
Shoulders: 20” from shoulder seam to shoulder seam
Sleeves: 26” from the shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 17 1/2”
Chest: 47” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 45” around
Hips: 48” around
Condition: This coat is pre-owned and has seen use, but still is very presentable. No pronounced wear, but there are a few surface nibbles, two near the right opening that are covered, so not visible, when the coat is buttoned and a third at the upper right near the lapel. In addition, there are a few tears to the lining at the bottom left that I will have my seamstress patch so that they are not an issue. Otherwise, this coat looks very good and I doubt that anyone will notice the nibbles.
This is a classic Armani, made in Italy - tailored styling, easy to wear, nice quality, collectible wearable men’s fashion!
