Vintage English Aquascutum Raincoat Cotton Blend Made in England Ladies Size M

Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing

This is a wonderful vintage raincoat made in England by Aquascutum of London.  The raincoat is made of a 55% cotton/45% polyester blend and has a 100% cotton lining that is woven in a blue, brown and white checked pattern.  It has nice simple lines with less of the typical flaps and straps seen on a trench coat - it does have cuff belts with a leather buckle, a waist belt and a rain flap across the back.  It is cut with padded shoulders, raglan sleeves and the buttons down the front are hidden by use of a double flap, except for the top button.  It has a slit pocket at either side and a 17” kick vent at the bottom back.  The waist cinches with the use of a matching sash belt, a nice casual look. The neck can be worn open or closed as desired - I’ve posed the piece both ways in the photos

Age: probably late 1970s

Label: Aquascutum London Made in England By Appointment to H.M Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Makers of Weatherproof Garments

Color: Beige/tan

Sizing: Size M 45 is indicated on a label, but I’m unsure if this is a size designation, so please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the thickness of the fabric and the style of coat into account:

Shoulders:  20” across the pads in the shoulders, approximate (difficult to measure due to raglan sleeve cut)

Sleeves:  29” long from the neck seam

Sleeve Inseam:  17 1/2”

Chest: 40” around

Waist: 44” around, uncinched, but meant to be cinched with sash belt

Hips: 47” around, meant to hang loosely

Length: 47”, measured flat

Condition: It is in very clean condition with no wear, tear, odours or stains - it is quite crisp and looks to have seen little use and was well stored over the years.  I would point out, however, that the belt has a plastic buckle and is rather large - it is an absolute match, but you may have to have it re-sized to fit, an easy task for any seamstress.

This is classic Aquascutum.....always in style.....very nice quality fabric......made in England where they are experts in rainy weather!
