This is a vintage suit that was custom tailored by a Montreal tailor by the name of John Di Pietro. The suit features fabric that is made in a striking woven pattern, kind of like a honeycomb design. The jacket is made with wide notched lapels and a single button closure. The shoulders are slightly padded and there is a pocket built into either side as well as a chest pocket. The sleeves have four button cuffs. The back has a 12 1/2” long center vent. The pants are unpleated (flat front) and have a leg that tapers and then flares to the bottom. The jacket has a wild patterned half lining (see photo).
Age: early 1970s
Label: Hand Tailored by John Di Pietro Montreal, Que. Tel 522-3942
Material: Most likely wool - very nice quality
Sizing: This is custom tailored, so there is no size indicated, and although this should fit a medium, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior (please take the thickness of the wool into consideration):
Shoulders: 18” across shoulder seam-to-seam
Sleeves: 26” from shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 18” long
Chest: 41” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 37” around
Overall length: 32 1/2“
Waist: 35” around - there are tabs with three button adjustments on either side, so the waist can be cinched smaller than 35”
Leg Inseam: 32 1/2” long
Overall length: 42 1/2“
Condition: This suit is in excellent condition with no wear, tear, stains or odors. It looks like it saw little, if any, use, and was very well kept over the years.
This is a wonderful example of circa 1970 mod styling - very nice quality custom tailoring, formal style, but with a lot of panache!
