This is a wonderful 70s vintage shirt made by “Mr. Hawaii”. Mr. Hawaii was a company started 1946 in Hawaii as a maker of “Aloha” Hawaiian shirts and then as an importer of Hawaiian shirts from Japan, but changed its name to Mr. Hawaii when they started to manufacture in California, eventually using “Go Barefoot” as their brand. The shirt is made of a 50% cotton and 50% polyester blend in blue and white linen type fabric. It has short sleeves, shoulder epaulets, a flapped box pleat pocket at either side of the chest, an open neck and five button closure. The pockets are decorated with a band of rainbow colours that correspond to the original eight colour gay pride flag, introduced in 1978. Included are hot pink, red, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, indigo, violet plus an extra goldenrod colour. The epaulets are also decorated with colours, but only with the violet, pink, red and orange. There is a small patch on the left sleeve that reads “Mr. Hawaii”. The shirt is in excellent condition - this doesn’t look to have seen much, if any, use at all. It is sized as a medium but please note the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the shirt into consideration:
Shoulders: 18” across from shoulder/sleeve seam to shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 9 1/2” from the shoulder/sleeve seam
Chest: 40” around, taken under the arms
Waist: 38” around, meant to be loose and tucked in
Overall length: 28”, measured flat
This is a wonderful shirt - authentic 70s era shirt celebrating the beginning of a movement!
