Vintage 1970s Hand Loomed Wool Poncho Cape Orange Brown Quebec Artisan Size M L
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
This is a wonderful hand loomed wool poncho/cape, most likely made in Quebec. The label is no longer there, but I’ve had other examples in the past, many with a label identifying the maker as artisan Martine Gruber. Pieces like this were part of the 1970s movement to hand make products as part of a rejection of machine made disposable fashion. The wool is arranged in rows in mixed tones of orange, ochre yellow, tan, white and brown - note the intricacy of the weave in the close up photos. There are raised bands of yarn accenting the piece. The cape has no arm openings and simply fits over the head. It is fringed at the bottom
Sizing: No size is indicated, but this should fit a range of medium to maybe large sizes (I think that you need to have narrower shoulders than a typical large) - please rely on the following measurements for fit, taken from the exterior:
Neck: 12” across, 24” around
Overall length: 45”, including its 7” fringe at the longest point
Side length: 31" including its 7” fringe
Condition: This poncho is in very good condition with no wear, holes, tears, odors or staining - this has been well cared for over the years.
This is a wonderful poncho....excellent quality, really a nice piece of workmanship....
