This is a vintage 1970s men’s cashmere coat made in Italy for Paul Mann Paris. The coat is very structured, with peaked lapels, a four button double breasted front, squared padded shoulders, three button cuffs, a flapped pocket at either side and a 22” centre vent at the back. The coat is in a dark brown colour, rather unusual, and lined in a brown coloured twill acetate fabric. There is one button-down inner pocket.
Label: Paul Mann Paris Made in Italy. I have not been able to find anything out about this particular manufacturer.
Content label: Cashmere Fine Quality. The cashmere fabric is thicker than what we see these days, but doesn’t have as soft a surface, probably due to the tight weave. It does have a softer and nicer finish than wool.
Sizing: The coat is has no size label, but should fit a size medium, probably a size 40 for a taller person, maybe a 38 if you want to wear a suit jacket underneath. Please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking the style of the coat and the thickness of the fabric into account as well as whether you may want to wear a suit jacket underneath:
Shoulders: 19” across, from one shoulder/sleeve seam to the other shoulder/sleeve seam
Sleeves: 26 1/2” from the shoulder seam
Sleeve Inseam: 18 1/4”
Chest: 43” around
Waist: 38” around
Hips: 43” around
Length: 47”, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, stains or odours - I don’t think that this coat saw much use.
Unusual to find a cashmere coat in dark brown - wonderful 70s era tailoring, structured version of a classic overcoat form!
