1970s Vintage Skirt & Sweater Set by Christian Dior London in Metallic Wool
Brand Poppy's Vintage Clothing
From the 70s here's a wonderful two piece ensemble from Dior. It was part of the rarely seen Diorling Line, first introduced in 1963 as a perfume and later as a clothing line aimed at the young and hip. This line was conceived by Marc Bohan, and sold only in London, during the swinging 60s and, I believe into the early 70s.
The double knit a-line knit skirt has the Dior logo woven in metallic thread throughout and is accompanied with a very simple turtleneck sweater, also woven with metallic thread in horizontal stripes. The metallic thread is in gold and silver on a cream knit background.
The label on both pieces reads "Diorling - Christian Dior - London". The fabric content label of the skirt reads 50% Wool & 50% Metallic. The sweater's fabric content label reads 56% Metallic & 44% Wool. The sweater is very soft, and does not have a rough metallic texture. There is also a size 46 label on the sweater. The skirt does up on the side with a zipper and two hooks and eyes.
Sizing: The ensemble appears to be a medium size, but please rely on the measurements given below for fit.
Sweater: Shoulders: 16" across unstretched Waist: 30" unstretched
Sleeves: 23" Overall length: 22"
Skirt: Waist: 28" Hips: 39" Overall Length: 43"
Condition: There is small mend to the turtleneck which cannot be seen when worn as it is under the fold. There is also a water stain on the grosgrain banding on the inside waist of the skirt. This should come out with a dry cleaning. It does not come through the front of the skirt. Really, this ensemble looks like it saw little use and was well stored over the years - it is in very clean, usable condition.
This is a wonderful outfit, very chic & and yet casual. The woven Dior logo is really striking - everyone will know that you're wearing a Dior. This is a rare and very collectible 70s Dior outfit which can still easily be worn today!
