This is a 1960s era red crepe dress with fabulous polka dots chiffon “balloon” or “poet” sleeves. The dress has a V shaped neckline and pleated polka dot chiffon insets at the front, back and sides. It has a matching belt with brass coloured buckle. It is lined in red acetate and closes at the back with a metal zipper.
Label: Marie Martine Paris. The Marie Martine fashion house was established in 1955 and had its heyday during the 1960s when she dressed such French celebrities as Brigitte Bardot and Francoise Hardy. Marie Martine also designed costumes for four French movies from 1959 through to 1966.
Fabric: Crepe, I believe rayon based with chiffon sleeves and insets that I believe are silk chiffon.
Sizing: There is no size label, and although this should fit a medium size, please rely on the following measurements for fit, taking into account the style of the dress (please measure your body or a similar garment that you might own for comparison):
Bust: 35”-36” around
Waist: 29” around, uncinched
Hips: 36” around
Overall length: 42“, measured flat
Condition: It is in very good condition with no pronounced wear, tear, staining or soiling. The only issue is that there had been disks of some sort that were glued to the belt buckle and are now missing. You can still wear the belt as is, but there is a bit of evidence of dried glue although this could be cleaned off. Or, you could find some suitable disks to replace what is missing.
In any case, this is a wonderful 60s era dress with spectacular sleeves - sure to be noticed!
