This is a wonderful quality 1960s fedora hat that Knox New York called “The LBJ”. President Lyndon Baines Johnson had a penchant for wearing Stetson “Open Road” fedora hats, so I guess that this was Knox’s competitive answer to the Open Road model, taking advantage of associating their brand with the President. The hat is made in a very nice quality black fur felt and has a thin grosgrain ribbon band around its base. The edge of the brim is finished in grosgrain and the brim is slightly upturned at the edge. The sweatband is gold stamped “The LBJ” and with “Knox Made in Canada Under License” - I believe that Biltmore produced hats for Knox in Canada, and Biltmore has always been a quality maker. There is no liner nor is there a size tag, but I believe that it should fit a size 7. It measures 22” around the sweat band and 7 3/4” by 6 1/2” across the opening. The brim is upturned at the edge and measures 2 1/8” in width - the crown measures 4 1/2” in height. The hat is in very good condition - there is one surface mark on the under brim, very minor, and should cut out with a thorough cleaning in any case. Otherwise, the hat is every clean. This is an exceptional quality hat i- great looking crown with an attractive crease and pinch and thin band, sure to be noticed!
