This is a fabulous vintage 1960s era black velvet coat, sold at the Boutique Jean Patou Paris and made in France. Jean Patou is a venerable French fashion house dating to 1919. Although Patou died in 1936, the label was popular during the 60s, with Karl Lagerfeld designing five collections from 1958 until 1963. The coat has a texture that replicates broadtail fur, very luxurious looking. It closes with one covered button and loop at the neck, has a rounded collar, above the wrist length sleeves and is made in a knee length. It has no other closures, so simply falls with either a small gap or overlap at the front. The back has a centre pleat down its entire length and the body of the coat is cut full so as to fall in drapes. It is fully lined in black viscose. This is meant for evening use, not as a winter coat.
